Good Intentions eBook Kathryn R Biel
I really, really enjoyed the story until we came to the ending. It all felt so rushed. The connection I thought was way too easily made. I didn't think it was necessary to introduce that one character towards the end just for HEA's sake! All the hard work, all that effort, all that tension and frustration, all the years and years of tears, all the heartbreaks, all the miscommunications, and all that pages and pages of relationship (or lack of) between the h and H(is he even the H?) were for nothing at the end!
The 3 main characters were sometimes downright stupid and selfish. The H did not deserve the ending he got for the way he treated the h. I was hoping he would redeem himself to her somehow even if they didn't end up together, but he never did!
Clearly, I am very disappointed with the ending. I was ready to give the book a solid 4 stars, maybe even a full 5, but I just couldn't. The end spoiled everything for me!

Good Intentions eBook Kathryn R Biel Reviews
Let me start off by saying that the author has done a really good job with the writing but still I'm more of a cliche happy ending reader and even though this was a happy ending I was constantly hoping Maggie would solve her problems with Ryan. However if she actually did solve it all it wouldn't have been very realistic because of the past they had and the way he treated her afterwards so I can understand why it did end up like that. Nonetheless I'm it too sure if I'm happy with it. It was quite bittersweet for me. But I would definitely try out other books from Kathryn.
This is a new author for me, and I love finding new authors that write great! The story line kept you interested and on your toes. The characters were developed and not rushed. Her writing style was easy to follow and didn't lose you in all kinds of lingo or obscure terms. And the story was a real book, not a novella or short story, but a real life from beginning to end self contained story - no sequels to wait for! Can't wait to see what she comes out with next!
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written, the characters well defined. I couldn't put it down and spent nearly all day reading, completely ignoring my life. Ms. Biel has an interesting style for writing, one that I had never really read before. It didn't take me long to get into the story and I really enjoyed the pace. I was worried when I read other reviews that said it was not the happy ending they were expecting. This book had a very happy ending - true, it was not what I thought would happen but I was thrilled with it. I look forward to reading more from this author.
What just happened?
I was definitely intrigued with this story and kept wondering how this would all play out. Overall, the writing and story are good and kept me guessing as to what would actually happen but at the same time, the 3 main characters are all really hard to like and their relationships are just so odd!
While I really appreciate an author taking the time to flesh things out, this book was long and parts really dragged for me. It was incredibly hard to believe that Maggie would put up with Ryan's treatment of her for that long...I couldn't figure out who I was more annoyed with! And then Matt....omg....he is just a stupid, selfish man.
And then the ending! What was that? I kept thinking...did I miss something? Ok, so there was some closure I guess?, but I was completely expecting the "grand gesture" to happen and give us a HEA. For me, the ending of a book is key and had it been different, I probably would have rated this higher. But seriously, I am now angry that I wasted my time reading this book!
If you are looking for a romance where the two lovers, parted by tragedy, evil machinations and unforeseen circumstances, reunite and then fall into each other's arms, then this book is not for you. However, if you are looking for an intelligent, well written family story, I can recommend this book. I won't reveal too much about it; I would rather not spoil the wonderful unfurling of the story. The characters are real and believable; even when one character is revealed to have acted terribly, we can understand why the person did so. The leading characters are realistically drawn and act as one supposes real people might.
Take your time and savor this engrossing book.
3.5 stars
Overall, I felt the story of Maggie Miller told in Good Intentions was an interesting one to follow. After reading the blurb and the sample, this looked to be a second chance romance which I am a sucker for. But this isn't your typical second chance story and the author weaves in various plot twists that I surely was not expecting. It is definitely full of drama and has quite a bit of frustration and angst.
Warning Slightly spoilerish review follows!
Good Intentions spans the course of 9 years and begins where we see Maggie meet a very handsome and great guy, Ryan, who is a childhood friend of her best friend Matt. There is definite attraction between Maggie and Ryan from the start, and when they begin to explore a relationship, they are torn apart when Ryan needs to move back home due to family obligations. Despite there being an obvious connection between Maggie and Ryan, it is frustrating to see that Ryan seems to disregard Maggie by severing communication with her, as she tries to keep in contact with him. Around this time, Maggie's life takes a big change, something I'm not a fan of in romance novels since it is overused, but here it works because it is the basis of Maggie's story. Eventually Maggie feels alone and abandoned not only by Ryan but by her best friend Matt who also stopped returning her calls and emails.
Fast forward 7 years and we find out Maggie has started a new life in a new location, and surprise, she is found by her old friend Matt. We learn the circumstances of how things came to be so messed up, and eventually we see Ryan re-enter the picture. The journey Maggie took through the remainder of the story was a bucket of emotions and frustration. I wanted to strangle a certain guy sooooo many times, and finally at the end of the story it was good to see Maggie in a good place. My only compliant was I felt the end was a bit abrupt and the connection made at the end of the story felt rushed and almost too perfect.
I really, really enjoyed the story until we came to the ending. It all felt so rushed. The connection I thought was way too easily made. I didn't think it was necessary to introduce that one character towards the end just for HEA's sake!
